AI Projects

AI isn't going anywhere, and its impact on songwriting and production is undeniable. For some, it's a revolutionary tool; for others, a disaster.

In February 2006 I fed some lyrics into Suno, gave it some specific prompts...  and I was actually shocked by what came out!

The AI controversy

Here are some songs I have written to address this strange era...

ARTYFICIAL - This is a catchy electronic vocal track which uses humour to tackle this sensitive issue

NEW FRIENDS - A commercially viable liquid drum &bass track which suggests a more positive view of the use of AI

LIFE GETS IN THE WAY - This funky soulful number highlights the frustrations of not having enough free time to achieve my creative goals

THE HAYSTACK This folk track goes straight to the big questions.. 'Is this the end of the music producer?' ... 'Is this the death of the songwriter?'

The soul of non-AI compositions

While AI offers polished professionalism, there's a powerful, soulful, and vulnerable human element in my non-AI tracks. They possess a raw, unpolished feeling that I hope resonates deeply with the listener. . It's not about one being "better" than the other, but about appreciating the unique essence each brings. My studio music aims to connect with you through its authentic, organic sound, showcasing the power of human emotion and creativity.

Why did I try AI software?

Despite having a master's degree in songwriting and music production, I found myself unsatisfied with the audio quality of my tracks. Mixing and mastering are absolute minefields: continually changing, difficult to grasp, and very time consuming.

At uni, (2004), we were reassured that AI wouldn't replace human songwriters, arrangers and producers, and that our jobs would be safe!   Things have changed A LOT with AI music production since 2004, and continues to evolve with every update.

For me, a working single mum of three, it has been life-changing in terms of speed and efficiency. AI tools have allowed me to release an album in less  time it usually took to finish one song. Furthermore, it gave my tracks the  polished feel I was craving.

I went through many revisions, and edited the tracks in the studio section of the software. I was able breath life into lyrics that had lay dormant for years in folders on my laptop, and I felt a massive sense of relief to know that these songs weren't lost forever.
